Resources are used and a carbon footprint is created as we produce SYP products, but as our brand grows, so does our own forest. We #plantitforward with a promise in partnership with Tree Nation to plant a tree for each SYP product. Through this movement we (with you of course) are able to offset our product.
We believe that planting trees is one of the most efficient solutions to fight climate change and one of the most convenient ways for you to join in making a difference. That is why we partnered with Tree Nation which is the largest reforestation platform that allows citizens and companies to plant trees all around the world with a mission to to reforest the world.
Our promise: “One tree = One Product”
One of the main characteristics of our movement is the transparency and ease of presenting our impact to you, our fellow SYPers. Here’s a real time example of how we keep track of your trees and monitor their growth and impact individually.
- Justine orders 5 SYP Boxes
- 5 digital trees are sent to Justine by Tree Nation and when she plants them with just 5 clicks, real trees are planted in SYP’s forest.
- Calculator reflects 5 trees planted and that 200kg CO2 has been offset. (Tree nation reports that 40kg CO2 is offset per tree. Total offset = 200kg CO2)
Your belief in our projects is important to us. We select projects such that the best impact can be made. Trees have so many benefits and a single project can support multiple cases. These benefits are analyzed in an Impact, Cause, Consequence method of addressing climate change. The projects to which you contribute are therefore, certified with the VCS and CCB standards and are backed by third-party CO2 and forest management certifications which add a second layer of guarantee, external to Tree-Nation, for maximum transparency .
Another Milestone for SYP Impact: A CO2 Neutral Website
We have now partnered with Tree Nation to offset the emissions that are generated by our website.
Why do we do it?
When a website is used, data is transferred and processed in remote servers. The electricity consumed by these servers and by our computers accounts for 4% of the world’s air pollution.
How does it work?
The “offset website smart label” tracks the website usage and calculates its related emissions, and plants the trees needed to offset these emissions.
We commit to continue to make more improvements as time goes on, and, whenever possible, we will share our progress, pitfalls and achievements. Look forward to more updates on our blog.
